mekeni > Remnants of WWII American military "Jeeps", Filipinos modified them to become the most popular mode of public transportation. Often these "Jeepneys" as they are called, are embellished with not so subtle decorations and high-powered music to attract passengers. Those "pasajeros" (passengers) that can fit on the built in benches are full rate payers while the stragglers or hanging (sabit) on the main entrance are either free or half payers.
